Apple promoting tandem WWDC-related events
As we enter into the month of June, developers are excited for the upcoming Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (Apple WWDC). This year’s edition will not be different, as it will be held on June 13-17 at two venues, the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium and at Moscone West.
Unfortunately for some, registration for this event has already closed for over a month already, given the high demand and venue limitation. However, some sessions will be streamed LIVE, and one can be assured that videos from WWDC will be posted online and on the WWDC app.
In any case, there are alternative developer events that have mushroomed. Apple, in fact, has acknowledged the existence of these events, and even cited a couple set to take place during WWDC.
Here are some of the events taking place in tandem with WWDC:
ALTCONF 2016: a free, community-driven, and supported event at the AMC Metreon in downtown San Francisco, the sixth edition of the conference will have streaming of the Keynote and the SOTU from the Apple WWDC, with a subsequent panel from “familiar voices from the Apple blogging and podcasting community.” In addition, developers will have sessions to learn on subjects that would not be covered under WWDC.
Layers: just two blocks away from WWDC, it is a three-day conference that is geared mainly towards the design aspect of development.
Beard Bash: This year’s edition of the annual event will be held at The Mezzanine, which is one of the prominent music venues in San Francisco. Headlined by the Department of Rock and indie rock band Airplane Mode, it is open for all, provided a RSVP was made.
WWDCGirls benefit gig: From being an informal luncheon in 2012, WWDCGirls is now an annual event involving women in technology. They have a fundraiser for App Camp for Girls, where middle-school girls “can put their creative power to work, conceiving (sic) and building apps, while learning more about the business of software and being inspired by role models who are professional software developers.” The musical experience slated on June 15 at The Mezzanine will be bannered by James Dempsey and the Breakpoints.
